Douglas Freeman, LAc
After receiving a BFA from the Ohio State University in Columbus Ohio, Douglas moved to Paris, France to pursue a career as a modern dancer. After teaching dance and fitness throughout France and Switzerland he returned to the United States and completed the Massage Therapy program at The Humanities Center School of Massage/Institute of Allied Health in St Pete, Florida. Licensed in the Massage profession in Florida, he returned to Paris to start a private practice in this field. Several years later Douglas saw the need to expand his knowledge of bodywork and healing.
He moved to New York and attended the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine (PCOM) where he received his Masters of Science in Traditional Oriental Medicine. Since then he has acquired vast experience successfully treating muscular and skeletal pain syndromes, gynecological concerns; especially infertility issues and irregular/ painful menstruation and various conditions related to HIV/AIDS. Douglas holds a NY state license to practice Acupuncture and Massage Therapy, is Board certified as a Diplomat of Oriental Medicine from the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM), is certified by the Council of Colleges of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (CCAOM) in Clean Needle Technique and is certified by the National Acupuncture Detoxification Association (NADA) as an Acupuncture Detoxification Specialist after being trained at Lincoln Hospital in the Bronx.
In 2001 Douglas started a private Acupuncture and Massage Therapy practice near Union Square. Immediately after the events of September 11th, Douglas volunteered many hours doing both Acupuncture and Massage Therapy to fire fighters, police and many others involved in search and rescue. Currently he is a member of the teaching faculty at The Pacific College of Oriental Medicine, gives workshops and lectures throughout the community, including the McBurney YMCA’s Chelsea location, focusing on the positive effects of using Acupuncture as a viable healthcare option.
